In Studio Ghibli’s Castle in the Sky, the pirate captain leading the airship crew is Dola.
Dola commands a family of sky pirates who initially pursue Sheeta and Pazu because they are searching for the crystal connected to the legendary floating island of Laputa. Although the pirates begin as antagonists, Dola and her sons eventually cooperate with the protagonists against Colonel Muska.
Dola is portrayed as forceful, practical, and highly resourceful. Her airship is the Tiger Moth, which the crew uses during the chase and later while exploring Laputa. Her sons form the rest of the eccentric pirate family, while her husband is notably absent from the adventure.
Castle in the Sky was released in Japan in 1986. It was the first feature film produced by Studio Ghibli after the studio’s establishment, and Hayao Miyazaki wrote and directed it.
