In Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Jabba the Hutt’s droid torturer is EV-9D9.
EV-9D9 is seen in Jabba’s Palace supervising the torture of prisoners, including the protocol droid C-3PO and the astromech droid R2-D2 after their capture. The droid has a distinctive damaged-looking mechanical design and a role that contrasts with the more familiar helpful machines in the Star Wars series.
EV-9D9 is easy to confuse with other Star Wars droids. 2-1B is a medical droid associated with the Rebel Alliance, IG-88 is a bounty-hunter droid, and 4-LOM is another bounty hunter. None of those characters is Jabba’s torturer in Return of the Jedi.
The film was released in 1983 as the third episode produced in the original trilogy. It was directed by Richard Marquand and features Jabba’s Palace, the Battle of Endor, and the second Death Star.
