In Star Trek: Voyager, what armor does the USS Voyager use in the future to survive attacks by the Borg?

The story behind the answer

In Star Trek: Voyager, the future USS Voyager uses ablative hull armor to withstand attacks by the Borg.

The armor is installed on Voyager in the alternate future shown in “Endgame.” When activated, it forms a heavy protective layer over the ship’s hull, greatly improving resistance to weapons fire. The future vessel also carries other advanced systems, including transphasic torpedoes and a temporal shielding system.

Ablative armor is different from a starship’s ordinary navigational or structural hull. It is an additional defensive technology designed to absorb or deflect extreme damage. The future Voyager’s armor gives the ship a distinctive dark, heavily plated appearance.

The armor is commonly associated with the series finale, which presents a possible future rather than the normal appearance of Voyager throughout most of the series. It should not be confused with structural materials such as duranium or tritanium.
