In Star Trek: First Contact, which actor plays Captain Jean-Luc Picard?

The story behind the answer

In Star Trek: First Contact, Patrick Stewart plays Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Stewart’s Picard commands the USS Enterprise-E and leads its crew against a Borg invasion of Earth. Although Starfleet orders him to remain away from the battle because of his personal history with the Borg, Picard disobeys and joins the fleet. His past assimilation makes the conflict intensely personal.

The 1996 film was the first Star Trek feature centered exclusively on the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation; no main character from the original series appears. Jonathan Frakes plays Commander William Riker and also directed the movie, while Brent Spiner plays the android Data and LeVar Burton plays Geordi La Forge.

First Contact sends the Enterprise-E back to April 2063, when Zefram Cochrane’s warp flight leads to humanity’s first meeting with the Vulcans. Picard’s performance combines command authority with the emotional strain of confronting the Borg again.
