In Some Like It Hot, what final line does Osgood Fielding III deliver?
Answer
Nobody's perfect
Answer
Nobody's perfect
In Some Like It Hot, Osgood Fielding III ends the film by saying, “Nobody’s perfect.”
Osgood, played by Joe E. Brown, has been pursuing Daphne, the disguise adopted by musician Jerry, played by Jack Lemmon. Jerry finally reveals that he is a man, expecting the revelation to end Osgood’s interest in marriage.
Instead, Osgood calmly dismisses the objection with the film’s final line. The joke works because the comedy has spent much of its runtime treating gender disguise, attraction, and social identity with unusually direct playfulness for a 1959 studio film.
The line is sometimes quoted as “Well, nobody’s perfect,” but the film’s closing response is generally remembered as “Nobody’s perfect.” Billy Wilder directed and co-wrote the movie, which stars Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon.
