In 'Snow White', what does the queen use to poison Snow White?
Answer
an apple
Answer
an apple
In the Brothers Grimm’s “Snow White,” the queen uses a poisoned apple to try to kill Snow White. Disguised as a peddler, the queen offers the fruit after earlier attempts involving a laced bodice and a poisoned comb have failed.
The Grimm story presents the apple as the queen’s final and successful attempt to place Snow White in a deathlike state. In the familiar version, the queen cuts the apple in half, eats the harmless portion herself, and gives Snow White the poisoned half. Snow White bites into it and collapses.
The poisoned apple is not the only danger in the Grimm tale, a detail often lost in film adaptations. The queen first consults her magic mirror, then sends a huntsman after Snow White, and later uses the bodice and comb before resorting to the apple. In the 1857 final Grimm version, Snow White revives when the piece of apple is dislodged while she is being carried, and the queen is punished at the wedding.
