In Silent Running, one of the drone robots is named Huey.
Huey works aboard the space freighter Valley Forge alongside the botanist Freeman Lowell. The Valley Forge carries preserved forests inside large domes after Earth’s natural ecosystems have largely disappeared, and the drones help maintain the ship and its greenhouse structures.
Huey is one of three named drones, alongside Dewey and Louie. Their names echo the famous trio of nephews from Disney animation, but the robots communicate through gestures and electronic sounds rather than spoken dialogue.
Silent Running was directed by Douglas Trumbull and released in 1972. Bruce Dern plays Lowell, whose attempt to protect the remaining forests brings him into conflict with the corporation ordering the domes destroyed.
