The wolf pack that adopts Mowgli in Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book is the Seeonee Pack.
The pack lives in the Seeonee Hills, a fictionalized setting associated with the central Indian landscape. When Mowgli arrives at the wolves’ cave, Mother Wolf protects him from Shere Khan. The pack’s council then considers whether the human child can remain among them under the law governing the wolf community.
The Seeonee Pack provides Mowgli with his first social identity in the jungle. Its leader is Akela, whose authority depends partly on his strength and judgment. Mowgli’s relationship with the pack becomes more complicated as he grows older and the wolves begin to regard him as different from them.
The name is sometimes shortened incorrectly to “the Seeonee wolves,” but Kipling’s established name is the Seeonee Pack. This is also distinct from the Bandar-log, the troop of monkeys that appears in “Kaa’s Hunting.”
