In Rocky IV, who played the Soviet boxer Ivan Drago?

The story behind the answer

Dolph Lundgren played the Soviet boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.

Drago is presented as a physically imposing Olympic champion whose scientific training and enormous punching power make him a formidable opponent. His exhibition fight with Apollo Creed ends tragically, setting up Rocky Balboa’s confrontation with him.

Lundgren was a Swedish actor and martial artist when he was cast in the role. His performance made Drago one of the most recognizable antagonists in the Rocky franchise, particularly through the character’s brief, declarative dialogue and imposing physical presence.

Rocky IV was released in 1985 during the Cold War. The film uses the Rocky–Drago rivalry as a highly stylized contest between American and Soviet imagery, although its final message emphasizes personal respect and reconciliation.
