In Rocky III, what landmark hosts the unveiling of Rocky's statue?

The story behind the answer

In Rocky III, the unveiling of Rocky’s statue takes place at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The landmark is one of the franchise’s most recognizable locations. Rocky’s famous run up the museum’s east steps first appeared in Rocky (1976), turning the building and its staircase into symbols of his determination and Philadelphia identity.

For Rocky III, a bronze statue of Rocky Balboa was created and placed at the top of the museum steps for filming. After production, Philadelphia officials debated whether the statue qualified as art or was merely a movie prop. It was moved several times, including to the Spectrum sports arena, before returning near the museum in 2006.

A common mix-up is confusing the unveiling location with Philadelphia’s other historic attractions, such as Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell Center. The statue’s setting is the art museum, while the steps themselves are popularly known as the Rocky Steps.
