In Robots, the young inventor who travels to Robot City to meet Bigweld is Rodney Copperbottom.

Rodney Copperbottom is the protagonist of the 2005 computer-animated film Robots. He lives in Rivet Town and dreams of becoming an inventor whose work can help ordinary robots. After building a small robot named WonderBot, Rodney travels to Robot City to present his ideas to the legendary inventor Bigweld.

Rodney discovers that Bigweld Industries has changed under the leadership of Ratchet. Ratchet promotes expensive upgrades and plans to make older robots obsolete, creating the film’s central conflict between repair and replacement.

Rodney is voiced by Ewan McGregor. Bigweld is voiced by Mel Brooks, while Fender Pinwheeler, voiced by Robin Williams, becomes Rodney’s friend. The characters are machines, but the film uses their society to explore class, consumerism, creativity, and the value of maintaining older technology.
