In RoboCop, what is the name of the cyborg police officer created from Alex Murphy?

The story behind the answer

In RoboCop, the cyborg police officer created from Alex Murphy is called RoboCop.

Detroit police officer Alex Murphy is fatally wounded while investigating criminals. Omni Consumer Products rebuilds him as a heavily armored law-enforcement cyborg and programs him to enforce the law. His remaining memories gradually return, leading him to reclaim his identity as Murphy.

Peter Weller plays both Murphy and RoboCop in the 1987 film directed by Paul Verhoeven. The story combines action and science fiction with satire about privatized policing, corporate power, and sensationalist media. RoboCop’s programmed directives are central to the plot.

ED-209 is a separate machine: a large enforcement droid that cannot replace Murphy as the film’s title character. Alex Murphy is also not the robot’s public name after reconstruction; RoboCop is the identity used by the police and media.
