In Revelation, the scroll opened by the Lamb has seven seals.
Revelation 5 introduces a scroll in the right hand of the one seated on the throne. It is sealed with seven seals, and a search is made for someone worthy to open it. The Lamb, identified with Christ, takes the scroll and begins opening the seals. The sequence unfolds across Revelation 6 and continues into Revelation 8.
The first four seals release the horsemen commonly called the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The fifth reveals souls under the altar, and the sixth brings cosmic signs. After an interlude involving the servants of God, the seventh seal is opened, followed by silence in heaven and the presentation of seven angels with trumpets.
The seven seals are distinct from the seven trumpets and seven bowls, which form other symbolic sequences in Revelation. The book’s number seven also appears in its seven churches, seven spirits, and seven lampstands, making the seal count part of a larger pattern.
