In Real Steel, the small sparring robot discovered by Charlie and Max Kenton is Atom.
Atom is an obsolete Generation-2 training robot found in a scrapyard. Max discovers him while exploring the wreckage, and the machine later becomes a capable boxing competitor under Charlie’s coaching.
Atom’s distinctive feature is a shadow function that lets him imitate an opponent’s movements. He also has a rare ability to operate through a human-controlled mode in which his actions can be mirrored by a person standing in front of him.
Atom is often confused with Zeus, the reigning champion robot at the film’s climax. Zeus is a large, technologically advanced heavyweight, whereas Atom begins as an apparently outdated machine whose resilience and crowd appeal drive the story.
