In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones’s former lover who helps him find the medallion is Marion Ravenwood.
Marion runs a bar in Nepal when Jones arrives seeking the headpiece of the Staff of Ra. The medallion is important because its markings reveal how the staff should be used to locate the Well of the Souls, where the Ark is hidden.
Marion is the daughter of Abner Ravenwood, an archaeologist and Jones’s former mentor. Her history with Jones gives their reunion an emotional dimension, while her independence and resourcefulness make her an active participant in the adventure rather than merely a companion.
Karen Allen played Marion in Raiders of the Lost Ark. The character later returns in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, where she is revealed to have married Jones and become the mother of their son, Mutt Williams.
