Answer
Pushing out
In professional sumo, oshidashi is the winning technique known in English as a pushing out.
Oshidashi occurs when a wrestler forces the opponent out of the ring by pushing from the front without gripping the opponent’s mawashi. It is one of the most frequently used winning techniques in modern sumo, especially among wrestlers who specialize in thrusting attacks.
The technique belongs to the official kimarite system maintained by the Japan Sumo Association. Kimarite are the recognized methods by which a bout is won, and the winning technique is announced after each match.
Oshidashi is distinct from yorikiri, or force-out, because yorikiri involves gripping the opponent’s belt. It is also different from tsukiotoshi, in which a wrestler knocks an opponent down or off balance using a thrusting action.
