In Pokémon Red and Green, which region is the setting for the player’s first adventure?

The story behind the answer

Kanto is the setting for the player’s first adventure in Pokémon Red and Green.

The Kanto region contains the original towns, routes, caves, seas, and Pokémon Gyms visited by the player. The journey begins in Pallet Town, where Professor Oak provides the Pokédex and the player starts exploring the world of Pokémon.

Kanto is also the home region of the first 151 Pokémon in the original games. Its Gym Leaders include Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, Erika, Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni. The Pokémon League is located at the Indigo Plateau.

Players sometimes confuse Kanto with Johto because the two regions are closely connected in the series. Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced Johto, and those games later allowed players to revisit Kanto after completing the main Johto storyline. The original adventure itself, however, takes place in Kanto.
