In Disney’s Planes, the character Ishani is a native of India. She is portrayed as an Indian air racer and the reigning Pan-Asian champion.
Ishani is one of the competitors in the Wings Around the Globe race, the international contest that drives the film’s story. She meets Dusty Crophopper during the competition and becomes both his romantic interest and an important influence on his development as a racer. Her aircraft design and racing identity draw on imagery associated with India, and one race segment takes the competitors to Agra, where the film features the Taj Mahal.
Indian actor Priyanka Chopra provides Ishani’s English voice. The character is sometimes confused with the film’s real-world voice performer, but Ishani is a fictional aircraft rather than a human character. Planes was released in 2013 by Disneytoon Studios as a spin-off of Pixar’s Cars franchise, using a world populated by anthropomorphic aircraft.
