Jennifer Tilly voices Celia Mae in the original English version of Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.
Celia is the receptionist at Monsters, Incorporated and the girlfriend of Mike Wazowski. Her character is recognizable for her single eye and living-snake hair, which forms a decorative and expressive part of her design.
Tilly’s performance is part of a voice cast that includes John Goodman as Sulley, Billy Crystal as Mike, Mary Gibbs as Boo, and Steve Buscemi as Randall. The cast helped give the film a workplace-comedy tone while preserving the emotional relationship between Sulley and Boo.
Jennifer Tilly is also known for live-action roles, including films such as Bound and Liar Liar. Because Monsters, Inc. features several prominent female characters, Celia’s voice can be mixed up with Bonnie Hunt, who voices Flint, or Joan Cusack, who voices Jessie in the Toy Story series. Those actresses are not Celia’s original English voice.
