In Pixar's Cars, Chick Hicks wins the Piston Cup after Lightning McQueen refuses to accept the victory.
During the final race, Chick causes a crash that sends The King into a dangerous spin. Lightning reaches the finish line first, but he stops and reverses course to help the injured veteran. He pushes The King across the line, allowing Chick to pass and take the official win.
The result is deliberately complicated. Chick receives the trophy, yet the crowd reacts negatively to his unsportsmanlike behavior. Lightning loses the championship on the official result but earns greater respect by choosing to help another racer.
The King is not the winner of the race, even though Lightning helps him finish. Lightning also does not receive the Piston Cup at the end of that event; Dinoco instead offers him sponsorship after seeing his character.
