In Pixar’s Cars, who voices the Italian tire expert Luigi?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar’s Cars, Tony Shalhoub voices the Italian tire expert Luigi.

Luigi owns Luigi’s Casa Della Tires in Radiator Springs and is passionate about Ferrari racing. He speaks with an Italian accent, admires Italian automobiles, and becomes especially excited when Michael Schumacher visits the town. His compact yellow Fiat 500 design contrasts with the larger American race cars around him.

Tony Shalhoub was already known for television, film, and theater work before joining Cars. His performance gives Luigi an energetic personality built around tire expertise, Italian pride, and enthusiastic motorsport fandom. The character’s name and business also form a wordplay reference to the Italian phrase “casa della,” meaning “house of the.”

Luigi is sometimes confused with Guido, his small blue forklift assistant. Guido is voiced by Guido Quaroni and communicates largely through expressive sounds. Shalhoub’s role is Luigi, the shop owner, not Guido.
