In Pixar’s Cars, who voiced Doc Hudson in the character’s final film role?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar’s Cars, Paul Newman voiced Doc Hudson in his final film role.

Newman supplied the voice of Doc Hudson, the retired Fabulous Hudson Hornet who becomes Lightning McQueen’s mentor. His performance gives Doc a calm, dry, and reflective personality that contrasts with Lightning’s early impatience.

Cars was released in 2006 and became Newman’s final feature-film performance. Newman died in 2008. The film therefore holds a special place in his career, linking his acting work with his real interest in motorsport and his experience as a racing driver.

Doc Hudson is a fictional character, but his identity draws from the real Hudson Hornet and from the tradition of American stock-car racing. Richard Petty voices The King, another important racing character, so the two actors are sometimes mixed up. Petty did not voice Doc; Newman did.
