Doc Hudson is the retired racing legend known as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet in Pixar's Cars.
Doc is a 1951 Hudson Hornet and the town physician of Radiator Springs. Before settling there, he was a celebrated racer who won three Piston Cups. His racing career ended after a crash and the racing world moved on without him.
The character's story gives the film one of its major emotional turns: Doc initially rejects Lightning McQueen's interest in racing, but eventually becomes his crew chief and mentor. Doc's quiet authority comes from experience rather than from wanting public recognition.
Paul Newman provided Doc's voice in the first Cars film. The character is not the same as Strip Weathers, the veteran racer called The King, and he is distinct from Chick Hicks, Lightning's aggressive rival.
