In Pixar’s Cars, which town does Lightning McQueen accidentally damage before repairing it?

The story behind the answer

Lightning McQueen accidentally damages Radiator Springs before repairing the town in Pixar’s Cars.

After escaping from a transport truck, Lightning becomes lost and reaches Radiator Springs on historic Route 66. He damages the road while trying to flee, and the local judge orders him to repair the surface. The punishment keeps him in town long enough to meet its residents and understand the harm caused by his selfish behavior.

Lightning initially treats the repair as an obstacle delaying his return to the Piston Cup. As he works with Mater and other residents, however, he learns that Radiator Springs has been bypassed by a modern interstate highway. The town’s decline reflects the real history of many Route 66 communities.

Radiator Springs is fictional, but its setting combines imagery from real places along Route 66. It is not the same location as Porto Corsa, the Italian setting used in Cars 2, or the desert locations visited in Cars 3.
