In Pixar's Cars, which song plays over the film's main road-trip montage?

In Pixar's Cars, “Life Is a Highway” plays over the film's main road-trip montage.

The song is performed by the country-rock band Rascal Flatts, whose version became one of the best-known musical features of the movie. It accompanies Lightning McQueen's journey while he is being transported toward California and eventually becomes separated from the convoy.

The energetic track reflects the film's road-movie structure and its celebration of American highways. Although Lightning begins the journey focused on reaching the race quickly, the detour through Radiator Springs changes his priorities and relationships.

“Life Is a Highway” is not the same song as “Our Town,” which is performed by James Taylor and is associated with the quieter, more reflective side of Radiator Springs. “Real Gone,” performed by Sheryl Crow, is another prominent Cars song, but it is not the main road-trip montage track.
