In Pixar's Cars, which retired racer becomes the town doctor, Doc Hudson?

The story behind the answer

Doc Hudson is a 1951 Hudson Hornet in Pixar's Cars.

The character is introduced as Radiator Springs' doctor and judge, but his past is gradually revealed: he was once a celebrated racer known as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet. After a crash ended his racing career, he became bitter about being forgotten and settled into a quieter life in town.

The Hudson Hornet was a real American automobile produced by Hudson Motor Car Company. The model became particularly famous for its success in stock-car racing during the early 1950s. Pixar used that history to make Doc's former racing identity fit naturally with his appearance and reputation.

Paul Newman voiced Doc Hudson in Cars, making the character especially notable because Newman had a real connection to motorsport as a racing driver and team owner. Doc's precise model is sometimes mistaken for another classic American sedan, but the film identifies him as a 1951 Hudson Hornet.
