In Pixar’s Cars, which racer wins the tiebreaker Piston Cup race at Los Angeles International Speedway?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar’s Cars, Chick Hicks wins the tiebreaker Piston Cup race at Los Angeles International Speedway.

The race is held because Lightning McQueen, Chick Hicks, and The King finish the season tied on points. Lightning dominates much of the event, but he stops to help The King after Chick deliberately pushes the veteran racer into a crash. Lightning then refuses to accept the victory after crossing the line alone and pushes The King toward the finish.

Because Lightning does not officially complete the race as the winner, Chick Hicks is declared champion. He receives the Piston Cup, but the crowd strongly rejects him after seeing his unsportsmanlike move. The film’s ending therefore separates the official result from the emotional victory: Chick gets the trophy, while Lightning earns public respect and a sponsorship offer from Dinoco.

Chick Hicks is voiced by Michael Keaton. The King, whose real name is Strip Weathers, is voiced by Richard Petty, a major influence on the character.
