In Pixar's Cars, which racer wins the Piston Cup after the three-way finish?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar's Cars, Chick Hicks is officially awarded the Piston Cup after the three-way finish.

The finale begins with Lightning McQueen, Chick Hicks, and The King reaching the last race in contention. During the closing laps, Hicks spins The King, and McQueen stops short of the finish line to help the older champion. Hicks crosses first and receives the trophy, but the victory is treated as hollow because of his unsportsmanlike conduct.

The King is Strip Weathers, a respected veteran sponsored by Dinoco. McQueen's decision allows Hicks to win the race while rejecting the idea that victory matters more than sportsmanship.

A common mix-up is to call McQueen the winner because he becomes the story's moral victor and later receives a Dinoco opportunity. The official race result, however, gives the Piston Cup to Chick Hicks.
