Richard Petty voices Strip Weathers, also called The King, in Pixar's Cars.
Strip Weathers is a veteran race car and one of the most respected competitors in the film's racing world. His nickname, The King, is a direct reference to Richard Petty's real-life reputation in NASCAR. Petty supplied the character's voice, while his wife, Lynda Petty, voices The King's wife, Mrs. The King.
Richard Petty is one of NASCAR's most decorated drivers. He won the Daytona 500 seven times and captured seven NASCAR Cup Series championships. In Cars, Strip Weathers races for the Dinoco team and serves as a model of sportsmanship and experience. He is sometimes confused with Chick Hicks, the aggressive racer voiced by Michael Keaton, but Strip is the veteran champion associated with Dinoco.
