In Pixar’s Cars, which legendary racer is revealed to be the local judge of Radiator Springs?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar’s Cars, Doc Hudson is revealed to be Radiator Springs’ local judge and a legendary racer.

Doc initially appears to Lightning McQueen as a stern Hudson Hornet who serves as the town judge and doctor. Later, the film reveals that he was the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, a three-time Piston Cup champion. A serious crash ended his racing career, and he became disillusioned when the racing world moved on without him.

Doc’s history explains why he resists Lightning’s attention and refuses to become his crew chief. Lightning eventually earns Doc’s respect by showing concern for the town and its residents. Doc then agrees to support him at the final race, where Lightning carries Doc’s old racing colors.

Paul Newman voiced Doc Hudson in the first Cars film. The character is inspired by the real Hudson Hornet, a car famous for its success in early-1950s stock-car racing, though Doc’s biography is fictional.
