In Pixar's Cars, the legendary racer who became Radiator Springs' doctor is Doc Hudson.
Doc is a 1951 Hudson Hornet and serves as Radiator Springs' physician and judge. He initially dislikes McQueen's careless attitude, but his own hidden racing history gives him a strong connection to the younger car's career.
Doc was a three-time Piston Cup champion and was nicknamed the Fabulous Hudson Hornet. His career ended after a crash and a long recovery, after which he returned to racing but found that the public had moved on to newer cars.
Paul Newman provided Doc Hudson's voice in Cars. The character is inspired by the real Hudson Hornet, a car famous for its success in early stock-car racing, including NASCAR competition in the 1950s.
