In Pixar's Cars, former racing champion Doc Hudson becomes Radiator Springs' judge and doctor.
Doc is a 1951 Hudson Hornet, a model associated with the real Fabulous Hudson Hornet racing team of the early 1950s. He initially hides his championship past and wants Lightning McQueen to leave town. Lightning eventually learns that Doc once won three Piston Cups before a crash ended his racing career.
Doc's dual civic roles explain his title and his authority in Radiator Springs. The character also represents an older generation of racers whose achievements have been forgotten by the modern racing world. Doc was voiced by Paul Newman, whose final acting performance in a feature film was associated with the character.
