Doc Hudson became the judge of Radiator Springs in Pixar’s Cars.
Doc is a retired race car who secretly won three Piston Cups in the 1950s. After a serious crash ended his racing career, he was forgotten by the racing world and settled in Radiator Springs, where he served as the town’s judge and doctor.
His past is revealed when Lightning McQueen discovers newspaper clippings about the Fabulous Hudson Hornet. Doc initially resents McQueen because the rookie’s fame reminds him of how racing discarded him after his accident. Their relationship changes as McQueen learns to respect Doc’s experience.
Paul Newman voiced Doc Hudson in Cars, making the role one of his final major film performances. The character is inspired by the real Hudson Hornet, a successful 1950s stock car known for its “step-down” design and racing victories.
