Doc is a Hudson Hornet who secretly had a celebrated racing career. He won three Piston Cups and earned the nickname Hudson Hornet before a crash ended his racing days and left him disillusioned with the sport.
In Radiator Springs, Doc serves as the town judge and physician. When McQueen is ordered to repair the damaged road, Doc supervises the sentence and initially resents the young racer's careless attitude.
Paul Newman voices Doc Hudson in the original film, making the character especially notable because Newman was himself a professional racing enthusiast and competitor. Doc's backstory is fictional, but the Hudson Hornet was a real automobile with a significant early NASCAR reputation.
