In Pixar's Cars, which character is nicknamed Mater?

In Pixar's Cars, the character nicknamed Mater is Tow Mater.

Mater is a rusty tow truck who lives in Radiator Springs and quickly becomes Lightning McQueen's closest friend. His name is a shortened, pun-based form of “tow mater,” evoking the phrase “tomato.” The character's humor, loyalty, and exaggerated stories make him one of the franchise's most recognizable figures.

Larry the Cable Guy voices Mater in the Cars films. Mater is not a race car and does not compete with McQueen for the Piston Cup. Instead, he represents the town's informal welcome and helps McQueen understand the value of friendship and community.

The character's official name is generally given as Tow Mater, while dialogue often uses simply Mater. This can cause confusion with the fictional town's other residents, especially Sheriff and Doc Hudson. Mater later becomes central to the spy plot of Cars 2 and receives a larger action-comedy role.
