In Pixar's Cars, which actor voiced the retired race car Doc Hudson?

Paul Newman voiced the retired race car Doc Hudson in Pixar's Cars.

Doc Hudson is the town physician and judge in Radiator Springs, but his past is much more important to the racing world. He was the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, a three-time Piston Cup champion whose career ended after a serious crash and an industry that quickly forgot him.

Newman was a celebrated actor and an experienced race-car driver. His real-world interest in motorsport made him a particularly fitting voice for Doc, whose dialogue combines racing knowledge with the perspective of an older champion.

Cars was Newman's final major feature-film voice role. He died in 2008, and Doc Hudson does not appear as a speaking character in Cars 2. The character's history is later honored through the Hudson Hornet legacy and the Piston Cup Racing Series.
