In Pixar's Cars, what type of vehicle is the character Mack?

The story behind the answer

Mack is a truck in Pixar’s Cars.

Mack is Lightning McQueen’s transport truck and carries him between races. He is a red Mack Super-Liner, giving the character a design based on a real heavy-duty truck rather than a passenger car or race car.

At the beginning of the film, Mack drives Lightning toward the tiebreaker race in California. He becomes exhausted during the journey and accidentally loses Lightning from the trailer, setting up the events in Radiator Springs. Mack later appears as Lightning’s dependable traveling companion.

The character’s name is also a manufacturer reference: Mack Trucks is an American company known for heavy commercial vehicles. Mack is voiced by John Ratzenberger, a Pixar regular who has appeared in every Pixar feature film through the period of the Cars films.
