Mack is a truck and serves as Lightning McQueen’s main transport in Pixar’s Cars.
Mack is a large red semi-truck who carries McQueen between races. He is loyal and hardworking, but his exhaustion becomes important early in the film: while driving overnight, Mack briefly falls asleep and loses contact with McQueen, beginning the chain of events that sends the racer to Radiator Springs.
John Ratzenberger voices Mack. Ratzenberger has appeared in every Pixar feature film released through the company’s long-running tradition of including him in its casts, although the role and character differ from film to film. Mack’s design represents a tractor unit with a separate trailer rather than a simple pickup truck.
Mack is sometimes confused with the haulers used by other racers in the series. His defining role is McQueen’s personal transporter and traveling companion. The character’s name also creates a small wordplay connection to the word “Mack,” a familiar shortened form associated with Mack Trucks.
