In Pixar's Cars, the veteran Hudson Hornet character is Doc Hudson.
Doc Hudson lives in Radiator Springs and works as the town's doctor and judge. His past is revealed when Lightning McQueen discovers that Doc was once the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, a highly successful Piston Cup racer. Doc won three championships before a crash ended his career.
The character honors the real Hudson Hornet, a car produced by the Hudson Motor Car Company. The real model became famous in early NASCAR competition, particularly for its low center of gravity and strong cornering ability. Paul Newman supplied Doc's voice, making the character one of the film's most notable links between fictional racing and real motorsport history. Doc's first name is never used as an alternative answer in the film; “Doc Hudson” is his established character name.
