In Pixar’s Cars, Chick Hicks is the Piston Cup racer who beats Lightning McQueen in the final race.
The climactic race ends when Chick causes a crash that sends Strip Weathers, known as The King, into the wall. McQueen stops before the finish line and pushes The King across it, sacrificing the championship to help the injured veteran. Chick then crosses first and is officially awarded the Piston Cup.
Although Chick wins the event, the film presents his victory as morally hollow because it follows dangerous unsportsmanlike driving. The crowd’s reaction and the sponsors’ response make clear that winning is not the same as earning respect.
Chick is often confused with The King, who is the respected champion involved in the crash, or with Jackson Storm, who belongs to Cars 3. Chick’s green paint and large racing number 86 distinguish him from McQueen’s red number 95.
