Doc Hudson is the judge of Radiator Springs and orders Lightning to repair the damaged main road after the race car tears it up while fleeing Sheriff. The sentence keeps Lightning in town and gives the residents time to make him restore what he destroyed.
Doc initially appears to be a quiet local doctor, but Lightning later discovers that he was once the famous Fabulous Hudson Hornet. Doc won three Piston Cups before a crash ended his racing career, and his return to competition was not welcomed by the racing establishment.
Doc is voiced by Paul Newman, whose voice performance was among the film's most notable elements. The character is not named Sheriff: Sheriff is the town's police car, while Sally Carrera serves as Radiator Springs' attorney and hotel owner.
