In Pixar's Cars, Doc Hudson is the judge who sentences Lightning McQueen to repair Radiator Springs' road.
After McQueen damages the town's main road while trying to escape, he is brought before Doc Hudson, the local judge and medical doctor. Doc orders him to repave the damaged stretch rather than simply leave town. The assignment forces McQueen to spend time with the residents and gradually become part of their community.
Doc Hudson is voiced by Paul Newman. His calm authority reflects the character's hidden past as a famous racer, a history McQueen does not understand at the beginning of the story. The road-repair sentence therefore becomes an important turning point in both characters' lives.
Sheriff helps enforce the town's rules, but he is not the judge who gives the sentence. Sarge and Ramone also live in Radiator Springs but do not preside over McQueen's hearing.
