In Pixar's Cars 3, who voices the veteran racer Smokey?

Chris Cooper voices the veteran racer Smokey in Pixar's Cars 3.

Smokey is introduced as a legendary mechanic and former racer who lives in Thomasville, Georgia. He knew Doc Hudson during Doc’s racing years and helps Lightning McQueen understand Doc’s history, racing technique, and attitude toward competition. Smokey’s advice becomes important as McQueen searches for a way to adapt without abandoning his identity.

Chris Cooper is an American actor known for film roles including adaptations, dramas, and thrillers. His calm, weathered delivery gives Smokey the authority of an experienced mentor rather than a conventional rival.

Smokey is not the same character as Doc Hudson. Doc, voiced in the first film by Paul Newman, was McQueen’s mentor in Radiator Springs. Smokey represents an earlier part of Doc’s life and supplies historical context about the Hudson Hornet’s racing career.
