In Pixar's Cars 3, who is the veteran racer known as Smokey?
Answer
Doc Hudson's former crew chief
In Pixar's Cars 3, Smokey is Doc Hudson’s former crew chief.
Smokey lives in Thomasville and was part of Doc Hudson’s racing past. He helps Lightning McQueen understand how Doc recovered from disappointment after the Fabulous Hudson Hornet’s racing career ended.
The character becomes an important mentor during Lightning’s visit to the old racing community. Smokey and the other veterans show that Doc’s greatest achievement was not simply winning races; it was the knowledge and relationships he built while racing.
Smokey is voiced by Chris Cooper. Viewers may confuse him with a current crew chief or a rival because he gives Lightning practical racing advice, but his defining connection is his earlier work with Doc Hudson.
