In Pixar’s Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez becomes Lightning McQueen’s new racer and carries the Rust-eze legacy.
Cruz begins as McQueen’s trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center, where she uses modern exercises and virtual simulations to help him improve. Her own dream of racing has been overshadowed by doubts about whether she belongs on the track. McQueen eventually recognizes her talent and gives her an opportunity to compete.
Cruz drives with number 95 and adopts the Rust-eze colors after McQueen changes roles. This is not simply a replacement of one hero by another: the film presents it as mentorship, with McQueen passing on lessons he learned from Doc Hudson. Cruz’s rise also challenges assumptions about who is expected to become a professional racer.
Cristela Alonzo voices Cruz in the English version. Her character is distinct from Sally Carrera, McQueen’s friend in Radiator Springs, and Holley Shiftwell, the British spy from Cars 2.
