In Pixar's Cars 3, Lightning McQueen wears the racing number 95 on his body.
The number 95 is Lightning's signature identifier throughout the Cars franchise. It appears on his doors and other parts of his racing livery, making him recognizable even when his paint scheme changes. The number connects the character across the original film, Cars 2, Cars 3, shorts, merchandise, and video games.
The choice is commonly understood as a reference to 1995, the year Pixar released Toy Story, its first feature film. Pixar has used internal references of this kind in several productions, although the Cars story itself does not treat 95 as a plot clue. Lightning's number is therefore both a character detail and a studio in-joke.
The number should not be confused with Doc Hudson's 51 or Chick Hicks's 86. Those racers have their own identities and histories. Lightning's red paint, yellow lightning graphics, and number 95 together form his most familiar visual design.
