In Pixar’s Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez becomes Rust-eze Racing’s new racer after training with Lightning McQueen.
Cruz begins the film as a trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center, where she uses modern coaching methods and racing simulations. Although she admires McQueen, she has never pursued her own dream of becoming a top-level racer. Their training relationship gradually reveals her natural ability and competitive confidence.
McQueen initially prepares Cruz to help him defeat Jackson Storm. During the Florida 500, however, he recognizes that Cruz is the driver best suited to challenge Storm. He gives her his racing suit and sends her into the race, beginning a new chapter for the team.
Cruz’s victory also reframes the meaning of McQueen’s legacy. Rather than simply continuing to race forever, he becomes a mentor and crew chief while Cruz carries the Rust-eze racing identity forward.
