In Pixar’s Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez becomes Lightning McQueen’s trainee and later races for Dinoco.
Cruz begins as a highly capable trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center. Although she has racing ability, she lacks confidence in pursuing her own competitive ambitions. Lightning initially treats her as part of his comeback training program, but their relationship develops into a partnership in which both characters learn from each other.
By the film’s conclusion, Cruz takes over the racing role associated with Lightning and competes for Dinoco. Lightning moves into a different role, supporting Cruz while honoring Doc Hudson’s influence on his own career.
Cruz’s arc is distinct from Lightning’s simple return-to-form story. It emphasizes mentorship, opportunity, and the idea that a team’s future can include a new generation of racers. She is voiced in English by Cristela Alonzo.
