In Pixar's Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez becomes the new racer for Dinoco.

Cruz begins the film as a trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center, but she has secretly wanted to compete as a racer. After training with Lightning McQueen, she proves her ability during the Florida 500 and takes over the race against Jackson Storm.

Lightning's decision allows Cruz to pursue the career she had been denied by self-doubt and by expectations about what kind of car could become a champion. She wins the Florida 500, and Tex Dinoco signs her to race for Dinoco. Lightning then adopts a mentor role while Cruz carries the team into a new competitive era.

This outcome differs from the film's opening assumption that Lightning must personally defeat Storm to preserve his career. Cruz is not Dinoco's original champion in the story, and she is not the same character as Cal Weathers, who is associated with the Dinoco team earlier in the film.
