Cruz Ramirez is the trainer who helps Lightning McQueen prepare for new racers in Pixar’s Cars 3.
Cruz works at the Rust-eze Racing Center, where she uses modern equipment and data-driven methods to train athletes. Lightning initially doubts her approach because he is accustomed to traditional racing experience and believes he can return to winning through determination alone.
Their relationship changes as they train in different environments, including a demolition derby and dirt-track racing. Cruz is not merely a support character: her own history reveals that she once dreamed of becoming a racer but lost confidence in that goal.
Cars 3 uses Cruz and Lightning’s partnership to explore mentorship and succession. The story does not treat racing ability as belonging only to established champions. Cristela Alonzo voices Cruz in the English-language version, while Owen Wilson returns as Lightning McQueen.
